Schumer: Trump Holding Federal Employees ‘Hostage’

 

Congressional leaders emerged from a White House meeting with President Donald Trump Wednesday without any clear path for ending the partial government shutdown. Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer said the House will still hold a vote Thursday, once the 116th Congress begins and Democrats gain power, on a measure to reopen the government, despite Trump saying he would not sign it.

“We are giving him a Republican path to [end the shutdown],” Pelosi said. “Why wouldn’t he do that?”
